Questions

When is the Cape Town Marathon 2027?

Sunday, May 23, 2027, from Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Green Point, to Vlei Road. Wheelchair racers start at 7:50, the elites at 8:00 and the Age Group World Championships at 8:05, before the waves. The Stadium start on Fritz Sonnenberg Road and the Beach Road start at Mouille Point merge at Fritz Sonnenberg Road and Beach Road within the first kilometer. Wave 1 starts at 8:10, Wave 2 at 8:27, Wave 3 at 8:40, Wave 4 at 8:53 and Wave 5 at 9:06, Cape Town time; times from 2026; we update them when the organizer publishes 2027's.

Where can I watch the Cape Town Marathon?

Race Together maps 12 places to cheer along the course, from Hyde St bridge in Woodstock (km 6.5) to Vlei Rd finish in Green Point (km 42.2). The most are in City Bowl (3) and Rondebosch (2).

When will my runner pass each cheer zone?

It depends on their wave and finish time. Open the cheer map, set both, and every zone shows when they'll pass. For example, a runner in Wave 2 on pace for a 4h finish reaches halfway (21.1 km) at about 10:27.

How do I get around on race day?

Take the MyCiTi and train. Each cheer zone within a 30-minute walk of a MyCiTi and train stop lists the nearest one and about how long the walk is, and the cheer map can show the MyCiTi and train lines and stations. The Southern Line has no regular Sunday service: in 2026 PRASA ran a race-day event train, so check its notice before you go. MyCiTi runs on Sundays, with some routes changed for the closures; check its notices. In 2026 the organizer also ran free spectator shuttles from the CTICC, the Civic Centre and Thibault Square.

Can I see my runner more than once?

Yes. The course passes 1 place twice: Sea Point promenade (km 37.5 and 40).

Is this the 2027 course?

It's 2026's. The organizer hasn't published the 2027 course, and its km points have been the same since 2024; this map follows them and the 2026 cut-off table. We'll update it when the organizer publishes 2027's.

Which start is my runner in?

The organizer assigns each runner the Stadium start on Fritz Sonnenberg Road or the Beach Road start at Mouille Point, by wave: in 2026, Waves 1, 3 and 5 started at the Stadium and Waves 2 and 4 on Beach Road, with the wheelchair and elite races at the Stadium and the Age Group World Championships on Beach Road. The two starts merge within the first kilometer, so the cheer spots see everyone.

What if the weather turns?

The 2025 race was cancelled on the morning for wind. Check the organizer's channels before you set out on race day.

Is Race Together the official Cape Town Marathon site?

No. Race Together is an independent spectator map, not affiliated with the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon. For road closures and race-day updates, see capetownmarathon.com.
